Introduction
Lately things have been a little bit quieter than usual in the Kanger camp which led me to believe that something new and potentially exciting was in the offing.
And not to disappoint us they have come up with not just one, but two new products based on the original K box design and Subtank Mini that has increased style and amazing performance, with a re-designed coil thrown in for good measure. Impressive!
Their new 50W Subox complete starter kit includes something for everyone whatever level of vaper you are. From the Sub Ohm builders to the novice vaper, the Subox Mini kit is going to impress you with its latest innovations and in a finish that is as classy as it is original.
Kanger rarely disappoint the vaping community with their product line and with the introduction of the Subox Mini kit they are most certainly going to raise some eyebrows!

Function & Performance
I have used the ranges supplied in this chart for overall consistency, but have also tested the Subox Mini combo’s full range from 7W watts up to its maximum of 50 watts using two different E-Liquids with varying PG/VG mixtures from the Cuttwood Range, and a new line from of E-Liquids from Longhorn Vapor called Psycho.

Potential Polycarbonate problems
It is fairly well known that certain e-liquid ingredients can cause cracking or even melting of polycarbonate plastic or acrylic tanks and tubes. For further information on this subject, please check with your E-juice supplier prior to purchase and use, or again contact the manufacturer directly.
Let’s take a look then at the Subtank Mini first followed by the Subox 50W.
The latest version of the Subtank Mini has been designed first and foremost to be used in conjunction with the 50W Subox Mini.
Featuring dual airflow inlets and a new vertical coil design, it would appear that Kanger have tried hard to improve on their previous versions. To help with heat dissipation a ceramic coating has been applied and a Delrin drip tip included, which should contribute to providing a more comfortable vaping experience overall, especially at the higher wattage settings.
A redesigned vertical Sub Ohm coil replaces the previous horizontal models retaining the Japanese Organic Cotton helping to improve both vapour production as well as flavour.
They have also enlarged the size of the two juice inlets on either side of the coil and made suggestions for temperature ranges based on the VG content of the E-Liquids being used with them, helping to provide the new user with a far more pleasant first time Sub Ohm vaping experience. (See under)

Previously the Subtank Mini came with a spare Pyrex Glass tank, and additional O-Rings included however with the new model you will not find these included. Opting for the white version of the Subtank, however, will include another White drip tip replacement.
Further Improvements have also been added to the RBA section which allows for better wicking Of the E-liquid by placing two large holes in the sides of the main housing rather than the two small ones that were initially placed at the bottom on the original version.
Kanger have also made access to the new RBA section far easier by using a Philips screw in place of the previous threading, so no more nightmare scenarios with this part in future when you’re trying to remove the outer casing in order to create a new build!
They have also included peek insulation for thermal protection as well.
Kanger SUBOX
Including a new livery to match the colours of the Subtank Mini the new Subox is a 50W device that can fire down as low as 0.3 Ω and up to a maximum of 50W adjustable in 0.1 increments.
This is a very sleek and stylish design that is simple and very straightforward to operate. It’s perfect for the novice users to get to grips with and truly a joy to use for the more experienced vapers as well.
Remove the magnetic battery housing and place the recommended 18650 battery for Sub Ohm vaping inside making sure it is put in the right way round!
To turn the device ON/OFF just press the fire button five times in quick succession to power up the Subox and select your desired wattage using the recommended settings for the type of E-Liquid that you happen to be using which as I have previously mentioned can be found on the coil itself.
At this point I would strongly tend to suggest that you do not attempt to build your own coils until you have a clear understanding of Ohm’s law and battery safety first, so stick with the pre-built ones instead.

Use the +/- buttons to increase or decrease the wattage in increments of 0.1 to achieve your preferred setting. The +/- buttons held down together will also allow you to change the orientation of the OLED screen to your preferred viewing angle.
All the operational information that you require in order to operate the Subox Mini can be found on the bright and easily readable OLED Screen, from the current battery charge status, voltage and wattage settings, to the current resistance value of the attached tank.
Kanger has also included a mini USB charging port with this model allowing you to vape while charging which can be seen below the +/- buttons.
And finally you will notice that battery stickers have been provided to help match up their colour to the Subox as they are visible through the venting hole.
Conclusion
This is a fantastic package that will be enjoyed by novice users to the more experienced amongst us. If this was their goal when they designed it, then I would say without a doubt they have managed to achieve it making this a really fantastic package.
The Subox Mini includes a flush 510 Fixed Connector with four air channels. It would have been an added bonus to have made this a spring loaded connector instead. Update: Kanger have informed me that a Springloaded 510 Connector will now be included in future releases!
Changes to the airflow system along with the inclusion of a vertical coil setup has seen a better increase in vapour production, with the flavour remaining on par with the previous Subtank range. It is also noticeably quieter to use with spit back now becoming a thing of the past, so a really big improvement in this department as well.
The increased diameter of the juice inlets with the RBA section however is where I noticed the biggest change, creating better wicking of the thicker E-Liquids and in turn increased flavour and vapour production overall, along with reducing the likelihood of burnt hits.
The inclusion of two O rings instead of one on the base of the RBA would make a very secure fit and therefore not require the addition of the Phillips screw. This works very well on a tank I recently reviewed so I cannot see why it shouldn’t work here as well.
As I have mentioned previously in other similar reviews, the airflow control ring would be better placed above the E-Liquid container if we are going to eradicate completely any further possible areas where the issue of leakage can occur.
Also heat build up in the mouthpiece is an area that needs to be addressed in more detail as well due to the increasing temperatures that people are vaping at these days, and we have recently seen some useful and novel ways to achieve this from other manufactures.
The Delrin drip tip on this model helps in reducing the heat build-up, but I’m hopeful that the KangerTech engineers will be able to improve upon this further and create something special with their next release to address some of the points I have raised should they choose to do so.
Both colour options sent to me for review look pretty cool (Black & White versions), so the Bling factor appears to be covered in these designs as well! A version in Orange and dark Blue might also be a worthwhile consideration?
The Aqueous ceramic coated matte finish not only looks good but feels extremely comfortable to hold, and due to its small size minimizes the risk of it slipping from your hand.
The magnetic battery compartment is the best-designed version of this I’ve personally used so far, making it very quick and easy to gain access to replace them.
Producing a maximum output of 50 watts is about the limit with a device of this size as battery drain happens reasonably quickly above 25 watts, so make sure you have spares on hand and follow the manufactures recommendations on battery choice to the letter as always.
And don’t forget the Subox now has a vape while charging capability included making it a far more versatile device if you happen to be near a mains socket!
The OLED screen is easy to read even in sunlit conditions giving you all the information you require at a glance. And the positioning of the three buttons makes it easy to change any of the functions on the display along with firing the device itself helping to create a comfortable user interface.
With the combination of price and functionality, along with its simple but stunning looks, the Subox kit is going to become extremely popular, and was definitely worth waiting for.
Expected price range appears to be around the £55.00 or $70.00 mark.
